TOBAGO PNM COUNCIL

The Tobago PNM Council is the governing and organizing body of the People’s National Movement in Tobago. It represents the interests of Tobagonians within the wider national framework and works to ensure that Tobago’s priorities, voice, and development needs are reflected in policy and governance.

The Council plays a central role in political organization, leadership development, and community engagement across the island. It operates with a clear commitment to service, accountability, national unity, and Tobago centered development.

The Birth of the People’s National Movement

  • Dr. Eric Williams founds the People’s National Movement
  • The PNM emerges as the dominant political force in Trinidad and Tobago

Establishment of the Tobago House of Assembly

THA Act No. 37 of 1980 is passed, granting Tobago greater autonomy •

The THA gains legislative authority over infrastructure, education, tourism, and local development •
